G11 Badger Region Championships, Impact Addition

Hi Club Directors -

Just two quick things.

Based on feedback we're getting, we've decided to add a G11 category to the Badger Region Championships on Saturday, March 17, 2012. This will be a ONE-DAY event and teams that play in this CANNOT play in another division later in the tournament (G12, for example), but there was a lot of interest for a one-day 10s and 11s tournament. The fee will be $175. It will be up on AES for entry on Dec 1 like everything else. It will be updated on the website tomorrow but Terry is traveling at the moment.

An Impact Plus clinic in Ashwaubenon has been added on Dec. 17. http://badgervolleyball.org/coaching-impact.php#schedule

Please make sure your coaches attending Impact are registering on Webpoint PRIOR to the clinic.

We have more than 90 people signed up for CAP this weekend - I'm very excited!!

Happy Tuesday

Forming Teams, Junior Coaches, Ref/SK clinics, Players Looking

CDs-

I know many of you will be working on forming your teams on Webpoint over the holiday weekend. Here is some information that may prove helpful:

- You cannot put a player with a tryout membership on a roster. The tryout membership is designated either by the expiration date of 12/1/11 or by the membership number ending in FMJ12 (girls) or MMJ12 (boys). Full memberships end in FJ12 (girls) or MJ12 (boys).

- Under your eligible players on the batch roster assignment page (Club Mgmt->Team Assignment) you will see jr coe: NO for your players. Don't worry about this. Only coaches need a code of ethics on file (see below for more info on this).

- If you cannot find someone within your club in Webpoint, chances are they haven't picked your club. They must choose your club from the dropdown. Here are instructions on how to do that (for the member - you as a Club Director cannot do that for them): http://badgervolleyball.org/registration-help_11_458894975.pdf

- Be sure to review the Webpoint Manual: http://badgervolleyball.org/handbooks.php

- Reminder for the super-secret Badger Region login so that if someone insists they have upgraded and picked your club but you still can't find them, you can use this login for Webpoint to see their membership and club affiliation:
Email Jen for this info - it was included in the email on Nov. 22.

- If you're using high school seniors as assistant coaches (they MUST be a senior, per the Badger Region rules, found on page 9 of the handbook), they also must sign a Junior Club Personnel Code of Ethics (JCPCOE). If they aren't prompted for this, or if they don't see it at the top of their Webpoint screen when logging in, it was attached to the email sent Nov. 22. We must have this signed and on file before we can mark that we've received it, and you can then put them on a roster (after Impact). Fax (414-443-1127), email or mail (7001 W Center St., Wauwatosa WI 53210). They will need a background screen once they turn 18.

- The Club Dues Payment Form can be found here: http://badgervolleyball.org/forms.php If your coaches have paid online, don't worry about the right column. That is only for those clubs who will be paying for their coach memberships via check to the office.

- If your club wants to host a scorekeeping/work crew clinic ($100), contact Jim Momsen (badgerrefchair@yahoo.com) with potential dates and sites and he will work with you on a clinician. Remember, you must either host a clinic or send a representative to a clinic to then return to teach your club how to referee/scorekeep. You as the club director are responsible to make sure this gets done and your players know what they're doing! Here's a list of club-hosted clinics, more will be posted (scroll down): http://badgervolleyball.org/clinics-referee-and-scorekeeper.php

I encourage you to check the Players Looking for Clubs section of the website to see if there are any players that you can use in any fashion: http://badgervolleyball.org/junior-players-looking-for-teams.php

Both Colleen and I will be checking email this weekend but the office will be technically closed Thursday and Friday.

Team Fees, Players/Clubs Looking Feature, Insurance, Feedback

CDs-
Hopefully you've mostly survived the girl's tryouts and will be moving onto boy's tryouts this weekend. A few things:

- The Club Dues Payment Form (to pay your team fees so we can mark them paid in Webpoint) can be found here: http://badgervolleyball.org/forms.php

- A new feature is up on the website under Junior Volleyball: "Players Looking for Teams" and "Clubs Looking For Players." I encourage you to spread the word and take advantage of these features so we can work to get everyone on a team who wants to play.
Players Looking for Teams: http://badgervolleyball.org/junior-players-looking-for-teams.php
Clubs Looking for Players: http://badgervolleyball.org/junior-clubs-looking-for-players.php

- Be sure to get your insurance information to Colleen at colleen@badgervolleyball.org. If you don't know what I'm talking about, go here: http://badgerregionvolleyballclubdirectors.blogspot.com/search/label/Insurance

- CAP Registration is still open. http://usavolleyball.org/events/8446

- The Prairie du Chien Impact time has been moved to 12-6pm. http://badgervolleyball.org/coaching-impact.php#schedule These are the scheduled clinics right now. I know some of you don't want the court time, but more education and training is never a bad thing, especially for new coaches. Regular Impact clinics may be scheduled in January or February.

And now I'm going to get a little more in-depth, so please either bear with me or come back and read this. I just spent three days in Colorado Springs with the USA Volleyball staff for the best professional development session I have ever been a part of. Including myself there were seven other Regions represented and we all basically sat around and talked with USAV and each other about Effective Practices - the best ways to do things, problems we run into and advice on how to deal with them, how to do things better. The session ended Wednesday morning with a giant brainstorming session about what USAV can do to make our (the Region's) lives easier or better.

So now I turn around and ask you the same question: what can the Badger Region do to make your (the club director's) lives easier or better. I don't need a response right now (but will take them, for sure) but just as you go through the season, keep mental (or actual) notes about "huh, if the Region had this, or did this" that would rock." Big club, small club, I don't care. Even if you think it's insignificant, if it would make your life easier, we'll look into it.

Don't ask me to change the tryout policy or the recruiting policy - because that comes from YOU as a club director at the September meeting, but I can certainly gather information on what other Regions do because I've heard from countless numbers of you that these things need to be changed.

We're here to work for you guys, who are the troops on the ground. Forgive me for getting sappy, but I'm brain-dead from the trip and the massive amounts of information I learned. I heard several times while out there (from other Regions) "Can I just join Badger?!" because we do so many good things, and that comes from you guys, who help us carry the programming out. Do we have problems, sure, every operation does. But please help us identify them so that we can address the situations and move forward.

Ok, I'm done. Have a great weekend and continued good luck!

Pre-Tryout Information

Hi All-

I know it's a crazy time. I'll be short and to the point.

- Attached is a sheet with examples of the full junior membership and tryout membership cards for you to hand out to your people doing registration so that they know what they're looking for. Also be sure everyone has med forms with them. I'd print extra. No paper forms this year, might be a good idea to have a computer on-site in case someone hasn't registered.

- Attached is a word doc on how to upgrade a member and/or choose a club. Pass out at tryouts, post on websites, email it with your offers, do with it what you wish, just please help get the info out. It will make all of our lives easier.

- The end-of-season release policy was again discussed and voted on at our last board meeting. While the vote was extremely close to allow the families to make the decision rather than the club directors, it was voted down because of the recommendation of the junior advisory committee (you) this summer. HOWEVER - the Board requests that you make public (website, handbook, announcements at tryouts) your policy on end-of-season release. Will you always give a release to a player who is in good standing with your club to play with another club after your season is done. Will you sometimes, on what grounds? Will you never? That way the families have the information prior to choosing a club. And I again urge you to do the right thing by the families and the players like I know most of you do.

- Madison and Eau Claire Impact clinics have been added. http://badgervolleyball.org/coaching-impact.php#schedule

-  If you (as a club director) renewed your membership after Oct. 31, chances are your admin access is gone in Webpoint. Email me and I'll give it back if you're nice.

- We have more than 45 people signed up for CAP I and more than 10 signed up for CAP II. Registration is still open. The course is Dec. 3-4 in Waukesha. Email Colleen for hotel if you're more than 90 miles away.

- The website is new. Changes/updates are still being made. You will get access to update your own club section shortly.

- The age waiver policy is the same as it's always been. If you have a kid who should be playing at (for example) 16s but you don't have a 16s team and she's in the same grade as the 15s, you can request a waiver. I know many have asked for leniency because of skill level but you guys (read: Sept. 11 meeting voters) decided not to change the policy this year and I have no authority to override that. It will be revisited next summer. The policy remains the same.

- Be sure all of your coaches are members and have clear background screens heading into tryouts. If not, they can't participate until the screen is clear.

- When creating and naming teams in Webpoint, please remember to put your club name in the team name "Club ABC 15-1". You cannot change team names, only I can, so I advise against Club ABC 15 Amanda if "Amanda" isn't going to be coaching your 15-1s every year. Reminder: J5 is 15s, J2 is 12, etc. Team rank - 1 is your best, 2 is second. Please use 1 and go down. If they're equal, you will need to decide. Don't put one as A and one as 1. Because when we're doing team fees, A will become 2. We don't use division, you can leave that blank.

- And finally, good luck and have fun! Make sure your coaches know the policies, if what you're doing feels shady and wrong - stop because it probably is, and represent yourselves, your club and Badger Region in the best light possible to further the sport that we all love!

If you have any questions, please email me as I will have access to email all weekend long and I will get back to you as soon as possible.

FREE MONEY for boys!

Club Directors-

Sorry I had to get a bit dramatic with the subject, but I bet most of you at least got this far! Please see below and attached for information and how to apply for the funds that Badger Region was awarded from USA Volleyball to help boys' 14 and under development!!
Jen

Badger Region is the proud recipient of a grant from USA Volleyball for Boys 14 and under development!

Please see below the different offerings and how to take advantage of them:

STIPEND TO GIRLS CLUBS FOR ADDING BOYS TEAMS
Girls’ clubs may apply for one of six $500 stipends to be used towards adding a new boys 12, 13 or 14 year old team. Interested clubs must submit a budget and schedule for consideration to Chad Schreiber(schreibercp@gmail.com) and Jennifer Armson-Dyer (jarmsondyer@badgervolleyball.org). Items like facility rental, equipment or tournament entry fees are all valid expenses to be covered by the stipend. These one-time stipends will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, with payment upon submission of receipts.

MEMBERSHIP & IMPACT FEES FOR FIRST-TIME BOYS COACH
Membership ($50) and Impact ($50) fees will be reimbursed for a first-time boys coach on a new 12s, 13s or 14s  boys team, to be paid upon completion of the first tournament that is coached. Coaches would submit for reimbursement and the club director would verify eligibility and coaching requirement. Ten coaches will be available to be covered by this stipend and it would be applied for on a first-come, first-served basis.

NEW 12s/13s/14s TEAM ENTRY INTO THE BADGER REGION CHAMPIONSHIPS
Clubs sending a new (intended to mean that a majority of the players have never before been to the Region Championships as a player) boys 12, 13 or 14 year old team to the Region Championship may apply for a free entry into the tournament. The club director would register the team on AES like a normal entry and then indicate that the payment would be “Boys’ Stipend” when sending in the AES roster. Nine total teams would be covered by this stipend and it will be applied on a first-come, first-served basis.

******

Using this grant money, Badger Region will also be running various clinics around the state. Below are some descriptions. If you and/or your club are interested in hosting or assisting with a clinic, please contact Chad Schreiber at the above email address.

Sister/Brother Clinic (2) - Badger Region would assist a girls club in running a clinic by subsidizing staff and covering the “brother” entry into clinic. The “brother” does not need to be related to girl entering clinic, but she must bring a boy, 14 or under, with her in order to register. Two of these clinics will be run in various locations throughout the state in locations underserved. The idea behind this is that we have contacts with thousands of girls throughout the state through Webpoint, and through those contacts with this clinic, boys will be introduced to the sport.

Father/Son Clinic (2) - Clinics to include instruction followed by “luck of the draw” format tournament.  Two of these clinics will be run in an area to be determined later where it is determined to be viable, most likely in an underserved area such as Green Bay, Madison orLaCrosse. The idea behind this is to provide an arena where both fathers (or uncles or other male adult) and sons can learn the game in order to grow the relationship between them, but also in the game. A preferred outcome would also be to get more dads involved in coaching their sons, and also grow the game by having more adult males interested, which directs the son’s interest to the game as well. We would look to use local collegiate men’s players in this event.

Please contact Chad Schreiber or Jennifer Armson-Dyer with any questions regarding the grant and welook forward to growing the game together! Please apply today!

Also, this is a one-time grant from USA Volleyball and we are looking at different fundraising options to be able to continue with it and other potential programs in the future. If you know of someone or a company who would be willing to sponsor various programs and events (including the Badger Region Championships), please have them contact me, or give their contact information to me and I will reach out to them. Sponsorship programs are in the process of being worked on and should be available shortly.
